Torr provides academic risk assessments for children and teens who have been expelled or suspended from their school.
When students are expelled from school whether in the K-12 system or the college level, school administrators usually request a mental health evaluation be completed prior to the student's academic reinstatement. The purpose of this assessment is to determine whether the student poses a risk of harm to themselves or others.
This can be a stressful time for the student, the family and the school involved. Torr treats each individual and family with compassion and kindness, assessing the best course of action based on his years of experience as a mental health professional.
We consider these types of appointments as priorities and endeavor to schedule clients within 24 hours. It is our commitment to turn around the necessary paperwork within 24 hours of the appointment time whenever possible.
What you can expect
The appointment will last approximately 55 minutes. The first 20 minutes or so will include the student and their guardian or parents. Torr may then meet with the student privately for the remainder of the session. Torr will also be discussing the events that lead up to the expulsion with school administrators. A report will be created to clarify misunderstandings, to highlight areas of concern, if any, and to suggest a course of action. This report is then forwarded to the school administrators within 24 hours. Parents and guardians are welcome to receive a copy if desired.
